PNWA Literary Contest
There was a voice mail waiting for me when I got home tonight to inform me that I am a finalist in the Pacific Northwest Writers Association 2009 Literary Contest.
I am amazed, honored, and ecstatic.
The PNWA contest has twelve categories, with eight finalists in each category. The list of all the 2009 finalists can be found here. Simply being one of the top eight fantasy and science fiction manuscripts is amazing. On top of this the finalists get some wonderful benefits: their entry is critiqued by an agent or editor, is made available to all the agents and editors at the PNWA conference, and if you attend the conference you receive a finalist ribbon for your name badge. (I don’t know yet if I’ll be at the conference, since I haven’t received final word on my scholarship application.)
The first, second and third place winners are announced at the awards banquet Saturday night, August 1st, at the conference. The lucky winners then have the opportunity to attend an agents and editors reception. (They also win money.)
I honestly did not expect to place in the contest. I’m so excited I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep! Which might not be bad, since now I really have to get to work on this thing…
