Moving Right Along

I wrote over 1400 words yesterday! On a weeknight! Okay, it helped that the Kid was gone. But the biggest thing was that I was writing a huge, emotional, tension-filled scene that just flowed. I could’ve kept going to 2000 if I hadn’t had to sleep. We’ll see if I can get myself going to hit 1000 again tonight. I’m about halfway through the third chapter now – and so far I’m sticking to 4500-5000 words per chapter, instead of 2800-3500. I’ve been getting crummy wordcounts the last couple weeks, though, which I’ve got to change. I keep telling myself I’ll get loads done in the beginning of August while the Kid’s gone.  We’ll see how that turns out.

I’ve had plenty of doubts about re-writing the first half of the book. But now that I’m into it, the plot feels so much better. As it was before it had too much going on, and not enough going on. There were too many threads that didn’t go anywhere, that didn’t mean anything. Maybe I could’ve pulled it all together. But I think what I have now gets her moving down the road much better.

Now if I can just write this thing as good as I know it could be… (why hello, writerly insecurities!)
